practical advice, support and guidance to parents

My name is Lynn Appleby and I am a childcare consultant, offering practical advice and support for parents on sleep training, establishing structured routines, positive reinforcement techniques to help with behaviour issues, potty training and play experiences both free play and adult led activities to help promote your child’s development.

New born to pre school child development and wellbeing

Parenthood is a journey full of ups and downs. It can be exciting, fulfilling, rewarding and lots of fun. However, it can at times be daunting and challenging having a new born or as your child grows and reaches important developmental milestones. If you are finding aspects of parenthood difficult I am here to help.

Tailored service

My decision to provide this service has been born organically from the nature in which I childmind. I not only fulfil my 9 to 5 role but increasingly I have found that my Parents are calling upon me for guidance and re-assurance when feeling the growing pressure to ‘Get it right’. I have helped many of my families in this way and I’m  now extending that service to help many more.

Background  and experience

I am originally from Scotland although I have made London my home for the past 16 years. My journey into a career in childcare began many years ago when I was a fresh-faced kibbutz volunteer in Israel. I had the pleasure of working in the kindergarten there with young babies which I loved. I was told by my colleagues that I had a natural affinity with young children.

This was something that stayed with me and led me into studying an HNC in Childcare and Education years later back in my home town of Glasgow. After qualifying in 1999 my son Solomon was born and I was glad of everything I had learned as I ventured into the unknown world of motherhood. I have worked as a Nanny and Childminder ever since.

I have been so privileged and happy to have worked with many, many families over the past 16 years, most of whom I am still in touch with. I have a deep understanding of children and how they learn and develop.

My service

My approach is friendly, thoughtful and personal. Solutions are tailored towards your family's specific individual needs.

Developmental

stages

Child development doesn’t happen in isolation it is interlinked and therefore if you call upon me to help in one area, it will more often than not, cross over into another, where we can solve more than one problem at a time. This list is not exhaustive but contains the main issues in which parents require assistance:

  • Sleep* – help in establishing good routines and structures which will aid rest and sleep.

  • Promoting positive behaviour – strategies to encourage positive behaviour including advice on setting age-appropriate boundaries, tackling negative behaviour and modelling positive behaviour.

  • Play experiences – ideas on both free play and adult led activities. These are designed to assist in all areas of your child’s development from birth to pre-school.

  • Potty training – individual tailored programs to aid a smooth progression from nappies to potty and toilet.

  • Fussy eaters – tips to encourage fun and stress-free mealtimes

*Night nanny service available on request by special appointment
